24-hour security services at the Institute provide a security presence on both Malta and Gozo's campuses to provide a safe environment for students, staff and visitors 365 days a year.

Key responsibilities of Security Services:

  • Assist students, staff and visitors while on campus in cases of accidents or injuries;
  • Protect the Institute's assets by preserving a safe and secure environment;
  • Be constantly vigilant when it comes to surveillance on property grounds and report any adverse remarks;
  • Maintain a physical presence to safeguard life and property;
  • Patrolling of premises;

Comprehensive Security Infrastructure

Both Malta and Gozo campuses have CCTV cameras across all areas. ITS security staff receives training regularly and operates a 24-hour control room monitoring CCTV, access control systems, and fire and intruder alarms across the campus. Security patrols the campus at regular intervals 24 hours a day. As additional security protection to everyone on campus from adverse occurrences, we use a data torch monitoring system to help facilitate campus safety. We can also access medical emergency services or police when necessary.

First Aid on campus

We are firm adherents to providing a safe environment for our students. In doing this, we have more than 30 security staff, academics, administration, and technical staff trained to administer first aid and are available 24/7. First aid boxes are installed across the campus and are easily accessible by students and staff. First aid boxes are located in:

  • The practical kitchens
  • Restaurants
  • Laboratories
  • Workshops
  • Laundry area
  • Security offices in Block A and Block C in Malta campus and reception area in Gozo campus

The Institute provides First Aid training to all students as part of their studies and has invested in First Aid equipment such as CPR manikins and choking rescue vests to learn the basics of CPR. Students also have access to an Automated Emergency Defibrillator for training purposes.

First Aid Room Location

The First Aid room is located in Block B, Room 08, close to the reception area on our Malta campus and is near the reception area on the Gozo campus. The First Aid room is equipped to provide basic first aid assistance.

Automated Emergency Defibrillator (AED)

An Automated Emergency Defibrillator (AED) is available at the Malta and Gozo campuses. The AED is located outside the First Aid room in Block B in the reception area. In addition, several staff members are trained in providing first aid support using an AED.

Student Lockers

Students may use the student lockers located in Block C for individual use. Lockers offer a safe place for students to store personal belongings. All lockers include locker keys control.

At the start of the academic year, students may book a personal locker. Preference is given to students who attend classes with practical kitchen sessions. Remaining students may apply for a locker on a first-come, first-served basis. More information about lockers is located in the student pack each student receives on induction day.

Lost and Found Procedure

The procedure used for lost and found items include, the filling up of the Lost and Found form by the security officer on duty, with the found items being sent to Safety and Security Manager's office Block A room 239, so that these items are successfully returned to their proprietors.

In the case of lost items, the form is also completed by the security officer on duty and given to the Safety and Security Manager so that they are aware of the loss.

Occupational Health & Safety and Workplace Wellbeing

The Occupational Health and Safety office ensures that health and safety issues are safely managed. It also provides services to protect health at work, assess and advise on fitness for work. The Institute thrives to provide a working environment where physical and psychological wellbeing can be supported.

The role of the Health & Safety Coordinator on campus is to carry out the required training and to ensure that the campus is in line with the latest Health & Safety regulations.

Workplace illnesses and incidents may occur due to bad working practices such as lack of personal protective equipment, unsafe manual handling, unsafe machinery, and lack of safety signage. Such practices might also result in long-term employee injuries as well as possible hazards for students and visitors.

A safe workplace helps to minimise illness and injuries. This can only be achieved if the workplace is kept well maintained and safe, and Policies and Procedures are followed by everyone.

Why is health and safety important at the workplace?

Every work environment has health and safety hazards. It is in everyone’s interest that these hazards are kept to a minimum. As part of the Institute’s best practices, health and safety policies and procedures are in place to safeguard students, employees and visitors.

The Health & Safety Committee

The Institute takes Health & Safety matters seriously. One of the aims of the Health and Safety Committee is to improve conditions at the workplace. The Committee meets on a monthly basis.
